Show off your grill skills and sign up as a competitive team. Competitive teams submit entries in chicken and pork ribs and can elect to participate in appetizer and/or judged dessert. We have a limit of 40 competitive teams each year.
Tailgate groups are just there to cook and experience the fun of the BBQ in Red Shoes but are not eligible to turn in entries to the judging tent in any category.
Expo booths are for our supporting friends that just want a space to show off their company and maybe run some games or handout giveaways at the event. For example: Our friends at Rogers Group, Inc. bring out a dunking booth each year to help raise money for the House. United Rentals held a Pie-a-Pro contest at their expo booth. Just contact the AGC Middle TN staff with any special plans so we can make sure to accommodate your needs.
There are various levels of sponsorship that include things like team registration, tickets, and signage at the event.
We have about 25 regular KCBS certified judges that participate with us each year. They are the real MVPs of the BBQ in Red Shoes, volunteering their time and knowledge to this event. However, we usually require around a total of 50 judges, table captains, and turn in helpers, so there is plenty of room for amateurs to join us for the event!
Pull tabs help the Ronald McDonald House pay for bills like keeping the lights on at the House. Collect your pull-tabs all year long and bring them to weigh-in by 2:30 PM at the BBQ in Red Shoes on September 20! The team/person/group with the most tabs takes home the title of Pull Tab Champion!
We are always seeking volunteers for the BBQ in Red Shoes event. We need help from 4AM to 4PM and everywhere in between. If you have a few hours to help make this event possible, register here! All volunteers will receive a General Admission ticket and t-shirt.
